Colin Maher
In 1993 I was regularly working at Great Ormond Street Hopsital ("GOSH") after being invited by a senior leading Play Specialist to work with some seriousiy ill children, the work was fantastic, actually making a huge difference to the life of long term patients. The work was so rewarding the President of an organization called Foundation Theodora - Andre Poulie heard of my work at GOSH and came to observe me. He was so impressed by my work that he asked me to join his organization to help develop and expand it futher. I gladly accepted!!

We worked very closely on developing a training programme and I became a trainer for the organization. I trained two teams in Hong Kong, South Africa and Turkey. I spent 12 years of my life in deveioping the organisation along with others to making a childs stay in hospital more pleasant and less frightening. Many thanks to all my special friends at the hospitals in the eariy years for helping to make this possible.

I have always been able to entertain people right from the time when I was a small child, so being able to entertain children in hospital and know that you are actually making a difference to their lives is wonderful.

As a parent of a child with a potentially life threatening illness, stress, worry and anxiety are at unimaginable levels and therefore to be able to relieve some of these tensions, even if only for a short time; is so beneficial for the child and parent/carer. I have received many letters saying just that.

The team of Nine Clown Doctors that I trained in this Country are still regularly working at GOSH, Guys, Adden Brooke's, Royal Alexandra (Brighton), Southampton and two childrens hospitals in Manchester. Bless them all....
